Drilling Rig Jobs – Is Earning $100,000 Per Annum Too Good to Be True?

Like anything which involves money, employment and greed, drilling rig jobs is subject to scams. A trick used by fake offshore employment web-sites is to post oilfield job  expression vacancies with very high salaries. How is a job seeker to know if a web-site or job is real or fake? One way is to learn what are the typical rig employment salaries.

Obviously, a job posted on Shell’s web-site is not a scam. Unfortunately, most jobs posted on oil company web-sites tend to be high level executive positions, for example country managers. Most entry level jobs in the oil field are found with oil contractors and oil services companies, who post their jobs through job agencies and third party job web-sites.

You may think that going to a reputable site like Monster will guarantee that the job is real. However, experienced job seekers can tell you that quite a few disreputable job agencies also trawl these large job boards to pick up desperate job seekers. While these are not outright scams, an unwary job seeker could find himself giving up half of his first month’s salary as a fee to some dishonest job agencies.

Here are some rig employment salary statistics from Canada, reported in 2006. This means the data was gathered around 2003-2005:

Toolpusher (who leads the management crew on the oil rig) earns $110,000
Managers (in the head office) earn up to $170,000
Entry level roustabouts earn $55,000
Painters earn $58,000
Mud engineers earn in excess of $70,000
Ditto medics – $70,000
Radio operators – $60,000
Derickman – $65,000
Driller – $85,000
Assistant driller – $70,000
Cooks and bakers – $60,000
So, is $100,000 per year for drilling rig jobs too good to be true? That depends on the position. In February 2008, the Wall Street Journal reported that fresh petroleum engineering graduates can easily earn in excess of $100,000 not including perks and signing bonuses. Compare this to 2003, when the starting salary was $55,000. The same goes for geology graduates, reported the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in April 2008.

As you can see, in just 5 years the salaries for some positions have nearly doubled. Why? Part of the answer lies in the rise of the Indian and Chinese economies, where 2.5 billion people are finally growing in prosperity and need more oil. Another part of the answer lies in too many years of under-investment in oil rigs and workers. Too many of today’s experienced oil rig workers were hired in the 1970s, and will be starting to retire in a few more years, just when many new oil rigs are becoming operational. For example, Noble Corporation is bringing 5 new oil rigs to production in the next 2 years, and will need 1500 vacancies filled.

A medium sized agency specializing in oil employment could have up to 1000 job postings in their database, with maybe 20 new drilling rig jobs offered everyday. Despite salaries which are higher than what you can normally earn in jobs outside the oil field, there is high turnover rate of workers. Life on the oil rigs and oil fields is tough, and many new workers just cannot handle it. This is especially the case for married workers, who find the 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off schedule very difficult on their marriages.

The Creative study of ART

What one sees is merely a hint of what is behind it. This is true whether the subject in www.lifeofanartist.nl its finished state be realistically treated or painted in an abstract manner. The abstract structure of a work is its theme; the thing represented is its idea. Both reflect the intangible expression. The Creative study of ART involves gut wrenching self-analysis. How you feel about the work is all that matters! Effective analysis includes the process of delving into the Artists’ intention and discovering how he actualized the form itself. Can you feel him, see him, and hear him as he labors in constant doubt and self-denigrating remorse?

When actively engaged in the rendering, applying, studying and understanding of the cosmic visualizations through ART, one gets so much more than by just looking: an erotic experience is added to visual experience. Was it not Plato who said: “It is beauty I seek, not beautiful things”? An artist knows that to create beauty in oneself instead of trying to find it ready-made (either in places or things) causes one to implode with indescribable potential. He may be tempted to do little more than make a duplication of artistic inventory of the places and things he’s absorbed instead of creating something original, but if he chooses this route he would be no different from the man who looks for ‘quick fixes’ to complex problems.

As Matisse has so embeddedly stated: “There is inherent truth which must be disengaged from outward appearance of the object to be represented. This is the only truth that matters. Exactitude is not truth.” The implicate need for man to know and comprehend the loathsome parts of himself through the divine nature which he inhabits ever spurs him on in conquest. If the meaning of God was implicitly exact, he would cease his search.

“The great epoch of the Spiritual which is already beginning, or in embryonic form, began yesterday…provides and will provide the soil in which a kind of monumental work of ART must come to fruition”, cried Wassily Kandinsky in 1910.

Technological Innovation Through Tech Mining For Market Dominance

Innovation means technological change. The technology change results in practical implication or commercialization, it does not mean just generation of ideas. The importance of technological innovation in today’s competitive economy is very clear, as today the worldwide economy depends on technology and technological innovation to an extraordinary degree.

Technological innovation plays important role in the economical growth of any country. Us, Japan, and other European countries are developed only due to there technological progress. In recent years, Singapore, India, China and many other countries are advancing dramatically due to technological innovations and progress. High technology companies are a significant and growing component of the economy. The competitive of these companies depends on technological innovations. Innovations improves standard of living. Developments in medical and pharmaceutical technologies have delivered extensive returns in health and life span.

Technological innovation involves tech mining. Tech mining includes understanding the technological innovation processes to track them more effectively and get informed about latest happenings and make valuable business decisions about R&D and subsequent implementation and adoption choices.

Innovation is defined as the process by which technological ideas are generated, developed and transformed into new business products, process and services that are used to make a profit and establish marketplace advantage. A better understanding of the innovation process is essential to figure out empirical measures deriving from innovation activities to generate actionable technological intelligence.

Tech mining is done through data or information extraction from multiple data sources, compilation and analyzing the results and represents key findings in actionable visual representation for easy understanding to what is happening now and predicting the future technologies.

Various types of technology analysis that can be aided by tech mining is as follows:

(A) Technology Monitoring (technology watch) – cataloguing, characterizing, identifying and interpreting technology development activities

(B) Competitive Technological Intelligence (CTI) -exploring out “Who is doing what?”

(C) Technology Forecasting-anticipating possible future development paths for particular technology domains

(D) Technology Road mapping – tracking evolutionary steps in related technologies and, sometimes, product families, technology diversification and technology tree

(E) Technology Assessment – anticipating the possible unintended, direct, indirect, and delayed consequences of particular technological changes

(F) Technology Foresight – strategic planning (especially national) with emphasis on technology roles and priorities

(G) Technology Process Management – getting people involved to make decisions about technology

(H) Science and Technology Indicators – time series that track advances in national (or other) technological capabilities

Reasons to Do Tech Mining

  • Forecast likely development paths for emerging technologies – identify new products, research or service opportunity
  • Identify competitors, or collaborators, at the “fuzzy front end” of new product development – keep tract of your competitor’s activity for market dominance.
  • Identify potential customers for your intellectual property (“IP”) – new licensing, collaboration, acquisition and merger opportunities.
  • Discover additional application arenas for the outputs of your R&D – identify how to develop new products and services from your existing business processes, without inventing more.
  • Gauge market potential for prospective technology-based products and services
  • Be a wiser consumer of others’ science and technology
  • Manage the risks of technology development and implementation based on better information.

The Angeles-Mendoza Oaxacan Mezcal Producing Family in Santa Catarina Minas

The incongruity is striking, between baking agave in a rudimentary in-ground oven over firewood, then crushing it using modern machinery, and finally distilling using pre-Hispanic tools and implements – clay pots, wood and river reed. Some  EarnWithSocial   producers of mezcal in the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca, for example in Santa Catarina Minas and Sola de Vega, indeed meld old with new.

But Felix Ángeles Arellanes is one of a dying breed of palenqueros who continues to make mezcal with virtually no hint of modernity, maintaining as much tradition as possible. The end result, according to Ángeles, makes it all worthwhile. In fact the 41-year-old resident of Santa Catarina Minas used to work with a fellow palenquero in Minas who does mix customary means of production with industrial revolution innovation. Not Ángeles.

When Ángeles and his wife Iraís Mendoza López broke away and began their own palenque in town some 17 years ago, he reverted to what he’d learned from his father and his grandfather:

“I could have saved up to buy a mashing machine, or begun using a horse or mule to pull the limestone wheel over my maguey to crush it, but this is how I was taught, and this is how I will continue, as will hopefully my children and grandchildren.”

Ángeles, usually with the help of between one and four of his nine children, crushes his agave in a long narrow stone trough by hand using a four-foot long heavy hardwood club fashioned from tree trunk or branch found in the hills outside of Minas. “To fill a 1,200 liter pine vat with baked maguey,” he explains, “we start mashing at about 4 a.m. and finish around 2 p.m.”

2. Brief History and Materials Distinction in Traditional Oaxacan Mezcal Production

Ángeles doesn’t suggest that his distant ancestors made mezcal this way, only that his children now represent at minimum the fourth generation of palenqueros who are continuing the family practice. In fact, while some scientists suggest, based on academic investigations including chemical residue analysis, that the indigenous peoples of Mexico began distilling prior to the Conquest, the more accepted version of mezcal production is that it was the Spanish who began distilling in Mexico in the mid-16th century, with native populations following suit.

Equine species disappeared from the landscapes of the Western Hemisphere approximately 9,000 years ago, and were not reintroduced until the arrival of the Spanish. Thus, there is little doubt that the process witnessed most commonly in the towns and villages outside of Oaxaca and along the sides of secondary highways, of a beast of burden crushing baked agave, and the palenquero fermenting then distilling using copper receptacles and tubing encased in brick (or stone), is a “recent” invention.

It is suggested that the use of clay pots (ollas), river reed (carriso) and hardwood mallets (marros) is a post-Conquest, likely indigenous adaptation which has endured to date; and that in some instances it represents not a centuries old family tradition, but rather a very recently “discovered” means of production. For example, families living in Pueblo Viejo in the Mixteca district of Oaxaca began producing mezcal using this method, in some cases less than a decade ago, enabling them to become new entrepreneurs with an extremely modest initial monetary outlay.

3. How the Ángeles Still Works

Even with regard to others who also make mezcal using clay pots and other locally produced tools of the trade, there are subtle as well as more profound distinctions in the process. An analogy may be drawn between the Oaxacan typical copper still configuration, and that employed in the state of Michoacán; both utilize metal receptacles, but in Michoacán, in at least some palenques, the still is comprised of a single unit, whereas in Oaxaca it’s two. It comes down to how and where the steam from the fermented mash is condensed into alcohol. The use of the traditional copper still in Oaxaca has often been explained, and indeed distinguished from its Michoacán counterpart.

The Ángeles palenque consists of three, independently functioning stills. It’s distinct from some of the other “ollas de barro” palenques which employ a single water cooling system.

A clay pot is encased in a stone and mud housing, the latter with an opening to insert firewood. A removable second olla de barro fits on top of it, open at both ends. It has a small hole in it near the bottom, into which a piece of carriso is inserted from the outside. On the inside, a hollowed out piece of tree branch fits across the pot, on an angle pointing downward so that the narrow end leads to the hole, on the other side of which is the carriso. Above the upper pot rests a metal bowl with a hole in it near the top, to which is attached a piece of rubber hose on the exterior.

When heated using firewood, the fermented liquid resting in the lower encased olla vaporizes, rising through the upper pot. A cool water source continuously fills the metal bowl, the “spent” water escaping through the rubber hose, then either recirculated or used to irrigate. As the steam rises, it reaches the bottom of the cooled bowl, causing condensation. The liquid then falls onto the hollowed piece of wood, exiting the clay through the length of carriso, then falling into a container. The liquid is distilled a second time, producing double distilled mezcal.

4. The Ángeles-Mendoza Family Enduring in the Face of Adversity

The Ángeles-Mendoza story is both uplifting and lamentable: the former because it illustrates the will to overcome adversity and the pride in steadfastly maintaining production of a mezcal crafted by a unique ritualistic custom, yielding distinct tones and nuances not often encountered; the latter because of the brushes with death the family has endured.

Ángeles became afflicted with cholera 20 years ago after drinking a milkshake (licuado) prepared in the Ocotlán market, made with milk, banana, and egg which he would later come to understand was rancid. He had begun learning how to make mezcal at age seven, so by this stage in his life he was a maestro palenquero. After a miraculous recovery he continued producing mezcal with his father. They would rent the palenque of a fellow producer, a common practice for many agave growers until they obtain the resources to build their own facility. Payment under such an arrangement is either cash or a percentage of the mezcal yielded.

“In those days there was a lot of maguey marteño around, of course as well as cultivated espadín,” he advises, “in addition to other varieties which were then unheard of by most who drank mezcal.” He continues:

“We used to mix whatever we grew or bought, and sold it all for one set price; but now, people pay a premium for mezcal made with other magueyes, especially the rarer varieties, so today I usually don´t mix varietals. For example my regular customers will happily pay me 50% more for mezcal made with pure marteño, as opposed to with espadín.”

The market for mezcal is not what it was a decade ago. And so about 10 years ago in an effort to better provide for his growing family, Ángeles moved to Huntington Beach, California, where he worked installing underground sprinkler systems. After a year he was forced to return to Oaxaca upon learning that his father was unable to work as a result of having been gored in the leg by a bull. Following a brief attempt to lead the American Dream, with the reputation of mezcal and corresponding prices on the rise, Ángeles realized that his calling was to keep making mezcal; and so he remained in Minas.

Life was progressing positively after Ángeles’ earlier near-death experience. The family was maintaining plots of land under cultivation with corn, bean and squash. It also maintained fields of agave. But in due course the size of the agave piñas cut from the fields became smaller and smaller, until it was no longer economically viable to cultivate the family’s own agave. “We then switched over to corn in those fields, in some cases mixed with the other crops, rather than continue with agave,” Ángeles describes, then elucidates:

“We’ve been doing it this way for a few years now, and buying all our maguey. Hopefully soon we’ll be able to grow agave on our own land like before; but as you know it takes several years for maguey to mature so it can be used to produce mezcal, so this is a long-term plan.”

Projections do not always turn out as expected. In December, 2010, Ángeles was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, and spent a month in hospital and further time at home in bed recovering, unable to work. His wife Iraís had already been working at maximum capacity raising their large family, the children at the time ranging in age from two to nineteen. A workload already consisting of making lunch for the children still in school, helping with the crops under cultivation including greenhouse tomato production, and doing laundry on a daily basis, suddenly became even more arduous. But the family endured, came together, and in due course made up lost ground.

5. Ángeles-Mendoza Santa Catarina Minas Mezcal Today and Into the Future

Four of the children of Feliz Ángeles Arellanes and Iraís Mendoza López are still attending school on a full time basis, their youngest set to begin primary school in 2013. The older ones help out in the palenque on an as-needed basis, gradually learning the trade. One is attending COBAO, a hybrid between the public and private school systems for bright high school students with perceived academic potential. He has his eyes set on a career in business administration.

Case for Digital Marketing in Healthcare

Digital Marketing Defined

Digital Marketing is defined as promoting of brands or products and services using multiple forms of digital advertising, like a brand’s website, email, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), social media, mobile devices, blogs, games, apps and other lead generation tools.

In order for any organization to  Newsrooms create an effective digital brand presence using these devices, the first step is to create a digital strategy.

A digital strategy answers the fundamental questions of who an organization will engage andhow. Implementing a digital strategy puts a public face on an organization, thereby increasing outreach capabilities and raising an organization’s public profile.

The Business Case for Digital

As statistics reveal, performing well in digital is critical to healthcare organizations:

72% of people use the Internet to find health information and services. (Pew, 2012)
Half of online health information research is on behalf of someone else. (Pew, 2012)
One in five internet users have consulted online reviews and rankings of health care service providers and treatments. (Pew, 2012)
Caregivers are more likely than other internet users to take part in a wide range of health-related activities online. (Pew, 2012)
42% of people living with a disability have looked online for health information. (Pew, 2012)
Digital is not a short-term trend. It is the way the world is moving because no other medium compares in its ability to reach and engage such a wide variety of audiences.

Overall, digital budgets continue to trend upwards. According to David Moth of Econsultancy, 71% will increase their digital marketing budgets this year (2013). Robust growth in digital spending will continue into the future, with spending topping out at CA$4.51 billion ($4.55 billion) in 2016 (eMarketer, 2012).

Despite the continued growth, today many organizations still have not caught up to this reality, and therefore are misallocating their marketing dollars.

Organizations that properly allocate their marketing dollars and implement coherent digital strategies early will enjoy greater long term benefits. It is important to start as early as possible. As more and more organizations join the digital sphere, the space can become crowded, thus requiring a greater investment of time and resources to have the same impact. In addition, investing in digital early provides the time necessary to build institutional knowledge and develop habits that are consistent with industry best practice.

Increasing consumer reliance on the Internet for information means that health care organizations can greatly increase their revenue and brand by engaging audiences online. Whether a client is looking for directions, helpful hints or researching services, an organization may establish itself as an early leader.

Joining the digital revolution is a process that takes time, dedication and most importantly, a thoughtful and well-executed plan. While the importance of a solid digital plan is well known, it is not a race. It is never too late for an organization to realize the benefits of early implementation.

The Benefits of Embracing Digital

The benefits of embracing digital are clear-especially for healthcare organizations:

Increased sales: As consumers increasingly turn to digital channels to seek out information regarding important decisions, smart marketers are converting that interest into handraisers and sales. Well-managed digital marketing methods have a better probability of turning a casual browser into a client.

Stronger community relationships: Digital provides an efficient means to reach out to and cultivate an audience of residents, staff, patients and their families, leading to a greater sense of community.

Quantifiability: Unlike traditional advertising vehicles, marketing your organization can track, optimize, and improve every interaction through digital. This approach results in the best possible customer interactions and higher conversion rates.

Improved brand perception: When asked, 94% of prospective patients said reputation of facility is important in hospital selection (Google, 2013). Brands can pay attention to what people are saying about their organization online. While it is impossible to completely stop negative comments, organizations can respond appropriately and mitigate their effects with positive content. By engaging they make it personal and have the opportunity to improve brand perception.

5 common credit score myths along with the true facts

Keywords:
credit score

Article Body:
Your credit score is an integral part of your financial life. It is important that you understand what it’s all about. Lenders, landlords, insurers, utility companies and even employers look at your credit score. It is derived from what’s in your credit reports, and it ranges between 300 and 850.

Yet, according to a survey that was recently conducted, nearly half of all Americans don’t know how these scores are derived or even what factors are used to come up with them.

For example, if your credit score is 580 you are probably going to pay nearly three percentage points more in mortgage interest than someone who had a score of 720.

Or another way of looking at it, if you had a $150,000 30- year fixed-rate mortgage and your credit score was good enough to qualify for the best rate, your monthly payments would be about $890. This is according to Fair Isaac, the company that created the FICO score and who the rate is named afte (Fair Isaac COrporation). If your credit is poor, however, it is very likely that you would have to pay more than $1,200 a month for that same loan.

With so much depending on the credit score, it’s important to understand what it is all about and what are the things that affect it.

Unfortunately, people commonly have a lot of misinformation and misunderstandings about their credit score. Here are five of the most common credit score myths and along with it the true facts:

MYTH #1: The major bureaus use different formulas for calculating your credit score.

FACT: The three major credit bureaus – Equifax, TransUnion and Experian — give the score a different name. Equifax calls their score the “Beacon” credit score, Transunion calls it “Empirica” and Experian gives it the name “Experian/Fair Isaac Risk Model.” They all use different names for the credit score, but they all use the same formula to come up with it.

The reason that the credit score you receive from each bureau is different is because the information in your file that they base the score on is different. For example, the records that one bureau is using may go back a longer period of time, or a previous lender may have shared its information with only one of the bureaus and not the other two.

Usually the scores are not too far from each other. Unless there is a big difference between what each bureau says is your credit score, many lenders will just use the one in the middle for the purpose of analyzing your application. So, for this reason alone it is a good idea to correct any errors that exist in each of the three major credit bureaus.

MYTH #2: Paying off your debts is all you need to do to immediately repair your credit score.

FACT: Your credit score is mostly determined by your past performance more than your current amount of debt. It will definitely be very helpful to pay off your credit cards and settle any outstanding loans, but if yours is a history of late or missed payments, it won’t remove the damage overnight. It takes time to repair your credit score.

So definitely pay down your debts. But it is equally important to consistently get in the habit of paying your bills on time.

MYTH #3: Closing old accounts will boost my credit score.

FACT: This is a common misconception. It’s not closing accounts that affects your credit score, it’s opening them. Closing accounts can never help your credit score, and may actually hurt it. Yes, having too many open accounts does hurt your score. But once the accounts have been opened, the damage has already been done. Shutting the account doesn’t repair it and it may actually make things worse.

The credit score is affected by the difference between the credit that is available and the credit that is being used. Shutting down accounts reduces the amount of total credit available and when compared with how much credit you can use your actual credit balances are made to seem larger. This hurts your credit score.

The credit score also looks at the length of your credit history. Shutting older accounts removes old history and can make your credit history look younger than it actually is. This also can hurt your score.

You generally shouldn’t close accounts unless a lender specifically asks you to do so as a condition for them giving you a loan. Instead, the best thing you can do is just pay down your existing credit card debt. That’s something that definitely would improve your credit score.

MYTH #4: Shopping around for a loan will hurt my credit score.

FACT: When a lender makes an inquiry about your credit, your score could drop up to five points. Some borrowers think that if they shop around by going to a number of different lenders that each time a lender does an inquiry it will generate another reduction in the credit score. This isn’t true. For credit score purposes, multiple inquiries for a loan are treated as a single inquiry, as long as they all come within a 45 day period. So it is best to do your rate shopping within this 45 day window.

MYTH #5: Companies can fix my credit score for a fee.

FACT: If the credit bureaus have accurate information, there’s nothing that can be done to quickly improve your score if in fact you have a history of not handling your debts well. The only way to have an effect on your credit score is to show that you can manage your debts in the future.

Also,if there are errors in your file, you can contact the bureau yourself. You don’t need to pay someone else to do it. Each of the major credit bureaus has a website which clearly explains what you need to do to correct an error.

So, the best ways to improve your credit score are: pay down the debt, pay your bills on time, correct existing errors on your credit reports in each of the three bureaus and apply for credit infrequently.

3 Pitfalls to Avoid When Playing in the Real Estate Game

Summary:
Don’t rush blindly towards real estate investing. Here are 3 big pitfalls to avoid.

Keywords:
real estate, finance, investing, money, retirement, multiple streams of income, property, housing, rental

Article Body:
So you’ve seen your umpteenth infomercial with the guy in his neatly pressed button-upped white T-Shirt grinning ear to ear waving his rock-solid no-money-down rags-to-riches real estate investment course for 3 easy payments of a gazillion dollars (but only if you call now) and now you are thinking, “wow this looks like a great deal, I better get it fast before the special offer expires.” You notice how there’s always a special offer? Anyway, I am not saying this guy isn’t telling the truth, however regardless of which course or school of thought you buy into there are several key areas that one must avoid when engaging in any real estate related transaction.

Pitfall Number 1: Don’t Overpay!

The whole point in investing is to find properties that are undervalued. How does one find out what is undervalued versus overvalued? Without getting into technical details, the bottom line is you need experience. Yes much like shopping for anything else, real estate is essentially one of the highest ticket items in the shopping center of life. It’s advisable to stick with one market, perhaps the one closest to you in proximity as a starting off point. Through your experience and asking the right questions, you will eventually have a feel for the pulse of the market you are looking after, and of course identify what is considered a good buy.

Pitfall Number 2: Know the Market

Yes, you are actually going to have to do more work! This part is really common sense though, but executing it where the beauty and the payoff comes in. How do you make money in real estate? The most basic way is to buy low and sell high. So from the first step, you have identified general trends in the value of homes, and are pretty good at spotting undervalued homes. Assuming you acquire that home, you may want to profit from it by selling it off to someone else for a higher price. How can you do this? Well there are many ways. For one, most markets appreciate in value over time so if you want a longer term approach that will work. Making upgrades to the property will automatically raise the price of the home as well. Think in terms of what the market wants, not what you personally want. You aren’t the one buying it; you are trying to sell it to someone else for a higher price than you bought it.

Pitfall Number 3: Know Your Budget

It may be a fine philosophy to go through life on a whim, but real estate is serious business, and thus diligent financial planning and budgeting is critical to your success. Don’t worry you don’t need to be a finance geek, however you need to be disciplined and know your budget from the onset, or you may be finding you are learning that you need to make certain renovations or upgrades, and didn’t anticipate it going over to a certain cost. Think ahead as to what is needed before actually going forth with investing in real estate.

I almost always trade on a market view. I don’t trade simply on technical information alone. I use technical analysis and it is terrific, but I can’t initiate or hold a position unless I understand why the market should move.

There is a great deal of hype attached to technical analysis by some technicians who claim that it predicts the future.

Technical analysis tracks the past; it does not predict the future. You have to use your own intelligence to draw conclusions about what the past activity of some traders say about the future activity of other traders.

For me, technical analysis is like a thermometer.

Fundamentalists who say they are not going to pay any attention to the charts are like a doctor who says he’s not going to take a patient’s temperature. If you want to be a successful trader in the market, you always want to know where the market is- up – down- trending or choppy .You want to know everything you can about the market to give you an edge.

Technical analysis reflects the vote of the entire marketplace and, therefore, does pick up unusual behavior. By definition, anything that creates a new chart pattern is something unusual.

It is very important to study the details of price action to see and observe. Studying the charts is absolutely crucial and alerts to existing disequilibrium and potential changes.

For forex traders, the fundamentals are everything that makes a country tick.

The release of economic & inflation indicators (i.e., consumer spending, employment cost index, government spending, producer price index, etc.), political actors, government policy or an individual event can set the market in a frenzy. These have to be considered when making the decision “ to trade or not to trade.”

Technical analysis, is a way of using historical price data in different ways to predict the future price of a currency pair.

Fundamental analysis is a very effective way to forecast economic conditions, but not necessarily exact market prices, and you SHOULD trade in agreement with the supporting technical indicators.

Foreign exchange traders put the most emphasis on technical analysis, because traders around the world use similar charts and tools in predicting market trends.

The reason the FOREX market can be so predictable some times is that if the majority are using the same graph for determining patterns and trends, then it is highly likely that they will act in a similar manner.

So several thousand traders who have all charted the same resistance line, for example, will most likely either set their trades and direction conform to that line.

When fundamental data is made available to the public there is a reaction from investors and speculators.

Information in the form of news and economic indicators is more vague than that of technical indicators. There is a lot of gray area in this type of analysis. The market will ultimately react to how people think the economic data compares to the current market situation.

Economic indicators usually reveal information that “Should cause a currency to go up in price” or “May cause a currency to go down”. The words “SHOULD” & “MAY” in the quotes above reveal the ambiguity of the fundamental data.

Here is an example of what analyzing fundamental data is like. Let’s suppose there are six economic indicators (there are a lot more).

Let’s call our six indicators 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Now we wait for the data from our indicators to be published in a financial magazine or at an online source. We get the readings for our economic data for the EURO as following:

Indicator 1: is in a range where the Euro may go up
Indicator 2: is in a range where the Euro should go up
Indicator 3: is in a range where the Euro could go down
Indicator 4: is in a range where the Euro usually goes down
Indicator 5: is in a range where the Euro could go up
Indicator 6: is in a range where the Euro may go down

By looking at the above indicators, you don’t know what the Euro is going to do. Furthermore, currencies are always traded in pairs. So you would have to get the fundamental data for another currency pair and compare it with the EURO. I think you can image that this is not a simple task.

I do not want to discourage you away from fundamental data. The best way to learn is to learn about one piece of economic data at a time. Eventually you will build a puzzle from all of the fundamental and technical data and make more informed trading decisions.
